A Life Path Number is one of several numbers in a numerology chart. There are four main numbers in a chart: your life path number, destiny number, soul urge number, and personality number. Some numerologists also include your birthday number as a significant factor in decoding a numerology chart.
Destiny, Soul Urge, and Personality Number
The Destiny Number represents your aim and what you must do in this lifetime. It also signifies what you came to manifest and accomplish during this lifetime. A destiny number also represents the path you must walk and what you came to be. It is found by adding all of the letters of your name at birth. In comparison to astrology, the destiny number is which houses the planets reside in your chart at birth.
The Soul Urge Number is your true personality, the one known only to you. Only those who truly know you will see this side of you. The Soul Urge number is also called the Heart’s Desire Number and therefore symbolizes what you desire to be. It also represents who and what you have been in past lifetimes. It is derived from adding the sum of vowels in your name at birth. It is similar to your moon sign in astrology as it reveals your innermost emotions and dreams.
The Personality Number shows your outer personality. It is also called the Expression Number. This number represents how other people view you. It signifies how you present yourself to others and gives insight into your body language, mannerisms, the traits you possess. It is calculated by adding the consonants in your name at birth. It is similar to your Ascendant or Rising sign in Western astrology.

What is the Significance of a Life Path Number?
The Life Path Number is likely one of the first numbers you’ve heard about in numerology. It is significant because it represents who you are learning to become in this lifetime. It indicates the lessons you must overcome and the path you’ll take to get there. It also informs us of challenges we may encounter as we progress along our way.
Your life path number also represents your identity in the sense of the traits and skills you possess, such as your strengths, weaknesses, talents, and ambitions. It can also reveal underlying qualities or characteristics that you weren’t aware you had. This can be a pleasant surprise in showing inner strength that you can access to help you live in your purpose.

Knowing and understanding your life path number can also help you comprehend how to navigate life through the twists and turns, ups and downs. It is important to note that since this is a path that you learn along the way and grow into, there will be challenges that arise throughout the journey. These obstacles are meant to provide you with the knowledge to propel you toward your life path.
This number is the path you are meant to take during this incarnation. Following your life path is like following your dharma or your purpose. If you stray away from it, your soul will feel restless and uneasy, leaving you confused and unfulfilled.
Life Path Number and Career
Your life path number has a highly significant role in your career choice. We spend approximately one-third of our lives working. Because the life path number represents who you must learn to become, and we find purpose in our career and how we show up in the world, this number bears a heavy weight on our profession.
It can help guide you toward a field in which you would excel. If you’ve been feeling stuck in your career, be sure that you thoroughly understand how to calculate your life path number correctly to gain insight into what jobs are aligned with your specific life path number.
Life Path Number and Astrology?
If you compare numerology to astrology, your life path number would be similar to a Sun sign. The Sun is your core identity. It’s what drives you to live as your highest self in this lifetime. It is the ego and how you shine in the world. It is the conscious aspect of your being and leads you to fulfill your life purpose.
How to Calculate a Life Path Number?
Your life path number is derived from your birth date.
Since there are 12 months in the year, each month equates to its respective number.
So January is 1, February is 2, and so forth. Please reference the chart below.
It’s important to note that October, November, and December are expressed differently. October reduces to one since it is the 10th month, and 1 + 0 = 1.
December reduces to three since it is the 12th month, and 1 + 2 = 3.
November does not reduce. This is because it is the 11th month, and the number 11 is a master number in numerology. The numbers 22 and 33 are also master numbers.

Master numbers are not reduced. They hold their own unique vibration, and therefore they have a separate meaning from their core number. The core number for 11 is 2; for 22 is 4, and for 33 is 6.
For anyone born on the 11th or 22nd day of the month or in November, be mindful not to reduce these numbers when calculating their life path number
When finding your life path number, it is imperative that you first reduce the day, month, and year separately. This is critical! You can get a completely different number than your actual life path number if you calculate it differently.
Example 1:
Birthday: March 28, 2000.
It might be calculated as 3 + 28 + 2 = which equals 33. This would show a life path number 6. But this is not the correct way to calculate it. This can lead to confusion because this person might think they have the purpose of a life path 33 while truly their purpose is of a life path 6. Although a person with a life path 33 can live in a 6 vibration, a person with a life path 6 cannot live in a 33 vibration. Therefore, if this person believes they are a life path number 33, they will feel unfulfilled in this lifetime because they are trying to follow a path not meant for them.
The correct way to calculate the birthdate would be 3 + 1 (since 2 + 8 = 1) + 2. This equals 6. This person would be a life path 6.
Example 2:
Birthday: November 7, 1980.
It would be written as 11 + 7 + 9 (since 1+9+8+0= 9). So, we would add 11 + 7 + 9. Again, the 11 would not be reduced since it is a master number. If we add it all up, we would get 11 + 7 + 9 = 27.
Next, we reduce it even further until we get a single digit. 2 + 7 = 9, so this person would be a life path number 9.
Example 3:
Birthday: February 3, 1995.
We would write it as 2 + 3 + 6 (since 1 + 9 + 9 + 5 = 6). The sum of 2 + 3 + 6 = 11. This person would be life path number 11.
Another important aspect when calculating a life path number is that the number you get before you reduce to the core number is significant when analyzing your path.
With that being said, please do not add the numbers straight across either. Doing so can cause confusion in understanding what numerical vibrations influence your energy.
Looking at the birthday example above, we see that this person is an 11/2 life path number. If we added the birthday straight across, it would read: 2 + 3 + 1 + 9 + 9 + 5 = 29/11.
Although both life path numbers are 11, they will vibrate slightly differently. This goes to say that a 38/11 and a 47/11 will also have different qualities and traits.
